Six riders met up this morning for a ride out to Doyly’s Cafe at Bolton Percy. We set off at a decent pace with everyone feeling surprisingly good until we realised we had a strong tailwind and consequently a 30 mile return leg with a 20 mile an hour headwind.
Despite the apprehension of the return leg conversation flowed, one of the topics keenly discussed was the weight of Dan’s Raleigh Grifter vs Jonathan’s Chopper (35kgs vs 18Kg according to Google) and before we knew it we had arrived in Bolton Percy.
It was the first time for many of us at Doyly’s and honorary Yorkshireman Chris voiced his concerns about the prices. These fears were confirmed when he saw the menu and when the food arrived he commented “You know it’s going to be expensive when your sandwich arrives with a flag in it.”
The food despite being pricey was tasty and the cafe received a favourable review from the group.
We made our way slowly back to Leeds, Jay turned off at Tadcaster and the remaining five took it in turns to shelter from the wind until we made it back home.
So another enjoyable Saturday ride was completed, it was 58 miles in total for me with 3500ft of climbing.
