This was the first P&R of the year, a circular route from Goole taking in a crossing of the Iconic Humber Bridge.

6 met at a car park in Goole at 9.0am, on a windy, cloudy, cool Saturday morning (the BBC weather man lied). Hamish was already warm, having already ridden 40 miles as he had cycled to Goole having left home at 6.30. This maybe a mad rush of blood, as part of his training for an upcoming 150 mile C to C in a day ride.
The 3 SRAN riders (Hamish, Dan & Jay) had an 80 mile route planned with the 3 AIR riders (Chris, Ben & Alan) doing a slightly shorter 74 mile one.
The area a mixture of Industrial and Agricultural, as could be expected with the numerous docks and acres of flat land as far as the eye could see.

Having all set off together the SRAN eventually pulled away with their faster pace, we were to meet each other again before the cafe stop as our routes crossed at the top of the first climb, yes believe it or not there are climbs in this predominantly flat land, a bit of a surprise really, we were to encounter a couple more. Alan suffering a puncture at the top of one 3 miles short of the cafe.
We all met at the cafe and had the pleasure of an ex Airedale member joining us, Kevin Sayles, who had moved out this way. Kevin riding his beautiful, raspberry coloured luggedsteel bike which he had built himself, for those who don’t know, Kevin was an accomplished frame builder.
A couple of minutes after leaving the cafe we were crossing the mighty Humber Bridge, still an impressive sight. Luckily not too windy so we were able to enjoy the crossing.

The 2 groups splitting again as we headed back to Goole, again we crossed paths before arriving back at the car park a little after the SRAN. No sign of Hamish, as he decided to continue his training by riding back to Leeds, covering a mighty 160 miles in all. For the rest of us 80 and 75 miles were enough.

All told it was a good day out, despite the weather not being as we had expected.
Cheers Alan.
