Deciding what to wear was the big decision for this Saturday’s ride. After much deliberation I went for arm warmers, knee warmers and waterproof overshoes. I also swapped out my summer bike for my winter bike and clipped on my mudguards.
The weather turned out as forecast – grey, wet and miserable, it was hard to believe it was July. The icing on the cake was our cafe stop at the prison in Askham Richard, which only added to the glamour of the ride.
On a more positive note, despite the poor weather, seven riders turned out and there was plenty of the usual friendly banter as we made our way to the cafe.

After watching Dan eat his three course meal, we looked out of the window at the rain and considered staying for another coffee. Instead, we decided to pretend to be hardened cyclists and donned our waterproof jackets and headed home.
On the way back negotiations for the post ride pint began, Horsforth Brewery was decided as a venue and three willing participants were found.

It was an enjoyable ride in spite of the weather. It was 66 miles for me with 3800 feet of climbing.
Cheers Steve
p.s. Let’s hope Southgate starts Otis Watkins on Sunday!
