JUST A BIT OF ARMLESS FUN

There were 7 at Rawdon for 9.0 on Saturday, a combination of SRAN & AIR groups, the SRAN off to explore the hills of the Aire valley and the AIR making its 3rdattempt to get to Burton Leonard, as the weather was finally on our side today. Nick, Dave, Tom & I set off for Pool to meet Chris, Jonathan & Ian. Unusually we were all in shorts and jerseys for the first time this year, says a lot about our Summer so far. Dave said goodbye at Armscliff Cragg while the rest headed on via Hampsthwaite, Clint and Markington. A lumpy but scenic ride took us to our cafe stop, the village shop, post office and cafe opposite the green in the middle of Burton Leonard.

While enjoying our butties and coffee in the shelter on the green, Tom ( a paramedic I might add) regailed us with a review of his latest job, the aftermath of 2 youths who thought jousting on motorbikes in a farmer’s field was a good idea. Suffice to say I was glad I had finished my bacon sandwich by the time he got to the nitty gritty of the aftermath following this folly, guess the young man won’t be shaking hands with anyone anytime soon.

Suitably entertained we set off for home via Knaresborough and Kirby Overblow and the inevitable Creskeld Lane, avoiding any forecasted thundery rain and getting  back after 58 miles and 4250 ft of climbing.

A couple met the SRAN boys after for a beer at the end.

Cheers Alan
