Better the Devil you Know…

Only the finest sports photography for AOCC blog

This week’s planned ride was a hilly one to Hebden Bridge. As the members began to congregate plans were laid to head instead to Burnsall on the familiar easier and shorter classic route.

Excuses included lack of time, lack of fitness and lack of sleep. Due to some bumbling about in the car park culminating in someone stepping in dog poo, the start was slightly delayed for some and a greater delay for others.

Nathan forged ahead, leaving Nick, Jonathan, Ben and Steve to follow at a reasonable distance.

Nick told his best Kylie Minogue joke to an unimpressed Jonathan who shared the punchline with the other two to save time.

As we approached Burnsall Jonathan was find the riding tough, eventually realising his back brake calliper was preventing his back wheel from “Spinning Around”. Nothing makes a cyclist angrier than wasted watts!

The cafe stop was the Wharfe View Team Room, the ominous looking clouds didn’t prevent our four optimists from eating outside.

Apparently cafes have a calming effect on Jonathan

We headed back hoping to avoid the rain (I should be so lucky!) and almost managed it, we reached Guiseley before it started.

The ride was 46 miles for me with 2500 feet of climbing. Another enjoyable day out in the saddle and I wouldn’t change a thing (except maybe stopping for a post ride beer).

Cheers Steve
