Six riders met at Rawdon this morning for the Saturday club ride. This week’s destination was the T Post Tea Room at South Milford, a first for us all.
It was a mild September morning and as I had failed to sync my phone to my Wahoo unit, I made my excuses and settled in third wheel for a flattish, fast ride out to South Milford.
I wasn’t disappointed, mainly spurred on by Nathan, Hamish and Dan we made light work of the 35 mile ride out, arriving at the cafe with an average speed of over 17 miles an hour.

The cafe was good, the highlights being the large display of cakes, an extensive menu and most importantly my favourite, hash browns!

As we left the cafe I was feeling a bit stuffed and Dom kindly pointed out that he could still see my hash browns (hopefully not a euphemism). Luckily, there were no climbs for a while, so I was able to avoid feeeling too queasy on the way back home.
The plotted route appeared to take us on a very busy road (which idiot planned that!), so we took a scenic detour via Kippax and Garforth, before rejoining the route at Barwick in Elmet.
The ride was 65 miles with 3400 feet of climbing. The average speed by the time we arrived back had slowed to 16.5mph.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable ride out, thanks to Hamish and Nathan for the tow and thanks to John, Dan and Dom for the company in the gruppetto.
