A ride out to Kirk Hammerton (isn’t he in Metallica?)

guess who’s got a new bike?

As the weather worsens the number of riders turning out for the Saturday ride is increasing. Eight riders met up for a ride to a new cafe in Kirk Hammerton.

Shortly after our departure we were down to seven, after Alan found himself unable to clip back in after waiting at some traffic lights.

The ladies of Kirk Hammerton are in for a treat…

Jimmy was also a fleeting presence as he wanted to try out his new cross-bike off road, so he turned off after ten miles.

This left six of us to enjoy the ride, in the sunshine, to the cafe. We arrived after 29 miles much earlier than anticipated, aided by a strong tailwind and some flat terrain.

The cafe got favourable reviews due to friendly service, great food and reasonable prices. It has only been open for three months and I expect it will be added to the AOCC preferred cafe list (if we have one).

On the ride back, we got our heads down and rotated the riders on the front, as we dealt with the inevitable headwind. Once we got back to Leeds, we decided to try out Horsforth Sports club for a cheeky pint (or two).

The ride was 58 miles for me with 2000 feet of climbing and an average speed of 15.5mph. Anyway it is getting late, time to call it a night (Enter Sandman).

Cheers!
